We are now inviting interns to join our 2022 farm community! (details below)
Exchange housing, food, and a unique educational experience for ~23 hrs a week on the farm. Work time includes preparation of community meals, and time for group meetings and farm-education sessions, and various field-trips to our partner farms. Schedule includes plenty of time for other part-time work and/or personal pursuits, and there are always extra work opportunities presenting themselves.
Interns will experience all aspects of running a very productive, no-till & hand-scale market garden. Also, you'll be welcomed into our Clove Valley family and exposed to a much wider community of amazing farmers and friends. You'll be helping grow seedings, veggies, herbs, and flowers for the Woodstock Farm Market, our farm family, and our local friends and neighbors.
A Uniquely Holistic Opportunity:
Since this apprenticeship is an educational exchange vs. farm job, an emphasis is placed on variety of activities and learning opportunities vs. straight productivity. And because Clove Valley's internship program places a high priority on personal development and community-building, our activities are often geared toward holistic health of the soil, our farm family, and the greater community. We prioritize the success of the business, and are never too busy to take good care of ourselves, never too busy to make and share delicious meals with the veggies we produce, and never too busy to grow flowers just for the pollinators and the pleasure of looking at them.
Weekly Schedule*: Monday 7:30-2 (including education session, lunch & community meeting) Tues 8-5 (with a long lunch-break) Weds 7-12 (with breakfast break). Optional Woodstock Market afternoon! Thurs 3-7 (Community dinner & fire afterward)
*This is the summer schedule May-Sept. Hours are a bit different in early spring and late fall because of weather.
Living Situation
We are located in a STUNNINGLY beautiful valley right on the Shawangunk Ridge in High Falls, only 20 minutes from Kingston and New Paltz & 1.5 hr north of NYC. Depending on length of stay, we offer transportation to and from the Rosendale Bus-stop (www.trailways.com) from Port Authority, NYC.
Interns share our fully-stocked communal kitchen and living room (with wifi) on the ground floor of a gigantic Dutch barn. There is also an outdoor kitchen/patio with wifi which offers a more covid-safe environment for visitors. Sleeping arrangements include various fun, beautiful, and private "glamping" situations... platforms with tents and tarped living spaces. We have 2 or 3 house tents large enough for a couple (see photo below), and 2 regular-sized tents. There is one indoor bedroom available as well.
If you aren't looking for a place to stay, you can still come to learn and experience the beautiful Clove Valley farm-life. It's a great way to meet new people, get your hands dirty, and you'll be sent home with extra veggies! Come sporadically, or once or twice a week... whatever works for you.
Come anytime during the community work schedule ) and if you'd like to focus on learning particular elements of the farm or specialize in an area let's talk about it. High School and College students welcomed!
